I am constantly asked about my love for Rhode Island. What I love about it. Where first timers should stay. Where they should eat. It seems that people who haven’t discovered this special little state don’t quite understand why people love it so - that is, until they visit. Then they just can’t deny the magic. And you know what’s so beautiful about this special state? There are people who have lived their entire lives here and still haven’t uncovered all the pretty parts - because it’s just so easy to get happy and content in your own little corner.

I’ve made it my personal mission to tap into the places with the most soul - places beyond Newport and Providence (although both of those are pretty darn special), and after ten years here I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. However, I find myself coming back to the sweet little Rhode Island towns of Tiverton and Little Compton over and over.

I almost don’t want to talk about these tiny little towns because I want them to be my little secret forever. They are untouched and untraveled (for the most part) - a place where the the only true lines (aside from the locally famous Grays and Evelyn’s) are the stone walls that line the roads, and the beach traffic is almost laughable. It’s like taking a look back into how all these beach towns used to be. Old New England cottages covered in weather-beaten shingles, miles of farm land overlooking the ocean with the cows enjoying the best views in the state, and a sort of slow-is-better kind of mentality. People aren’t clamoring to make dinner reservations, instead they are entertaining at home or stopping by a friend’s house for a farm-to-table meal (before that was even a thing).

It’s a wonderful place to explore - with only one downside - there aren’t a ton of places to stay. That is, of course, until you uncover the absolutely stunning properties owned by one heck of a crew - The Moore Family. Their electric personalities seem to seep from every exposed beam and pour from every perfectly styled vignette. Walking into one of their properties is a true experience - with each detail decked to the nines. Your senses seem to come to life when you enter their beautifully appointed doors, and that’s because these lovely folks thought of everything - the music, the smells, the textures - it’s a luxury experience all in this small, special little town in a small, special little state.

Their properties are unique and special. Renovated with so much love and attention to detail, a stay at one of their homes turns out to be a treasure hunt to uncover all the special moments this talented team curated to make your stay unique. As a new mom, I sometimes fantasize about booking one of the waterfront cottages for a night alone just to write and watch the water (ok and drink wine and sleep…).

We got the chance to visit two of their Tiverton properties recently - Cottage 29 and The Boathouse. They are both absolutely stunning and made me want snap pictures at every angle (thankfully Erin was with me - who is much more suited for the job). You can’t get much more “on the water” with these two gems - the sound of the water lapping up against the side of the cottages is something I would pay money for. There isn’t a sound more therapeutic.

If you ever find yourself in this beautiful neck of the woods, or are looking for a place to get away - I can’t recommend The Moore House properties enough. It’s a unique experience, and as much as I want to keep them my little secret, that just wouldn’t be fair now would it?
